Social Enterprise: The Sustainability Institute
A BRIGHTER TOMORROW
As a Social Enterprise, The Lexi Cinema covenants 100% of its profits to charity. Their beneficiary is The Sustainability Institute, which supports a vibrant and forward-thinking eco-centre near Cape Town, South Africa.
Founded in 1999, the Institute is rooted in an agricultural community needing to break free from its racial past. It offers a unique African setting where creative work and learning can be inspired by the joys and challenges of sustainability in practice. Funding has already provided a crèche for 50 children, self-defense classes for students, food gardens, rainwater collectors, recycling aids and a piece of land which will prevent development and preserve the native fynbos (natural shrubland).
